FAUST has been and gone...

Between September 17 – 22 at The Priestley in Bradford - The Silver Hammer presented a reworking of FAUST. It wasn’t for FAUST purists. Basically we kept the title and then monkeyed with everything else… Our Faust was a likeable, well meaning man just like you and me - who just happened to be offered the world. And under those circumstances who wouldn’t decide to tuck in? And who wouldn’t get a little carried away? Who indeed wouldn’t end up wanting it all? Only Faust gets to live it; And guess what? Having everything turns out to be not quite enough…

Working in partnership with the University of Bradford, Amy Hirst, Chris Boylan and young people from Elysium in Keighley; Sarah directed Lyndon Marquis as Faust, Sandra Chewins as Suzie and Angela Marquis as The Magician; creating an intense, uncomfortable, hilarious, stand up, live action meets multimedia-in-your-face promenade fish slap of a night. We didn’t let Faust or the Audience off the hook and it made people feel strange, angry, elated, provoked, challenged, engaged and sometimes just amazed and lost for words. Read our reviews to get a flavour of this... If that wasn’t enough we staged ‘Hell Club’ a disco incorporating nightmare tunes for the 'delight' of the recovering audience…

Sarah led the devising of this piece with the cast and young women from Elysium, then wrote the script and directed.

Angela acted and produced.

Emma (in conjunction with Simon Moran and Rick Robinson who all together form Portable Pony) wrote and recorded the music for the show.
